| Photo Friends and the Los Angeles Public Library
have been researching the rich and visually exciting images of
the growth of industry in the greater Los Angeles area. The Library’s
Photograph Collection contains thousands of photographs documenting
this fascinating aspect of Los Angeles's history.
Aside from combing through the Library’s Collection to select
images for an exhibit that will open later in 2009, Library staff
and volunteers have conducted research on industries past and
present to better understand changes that have taken place on
the industrial landscape of Los Angeles.
To ensure that the Library’s Collection will continue to
document such an important part of Los Angeles’s history,
a generous grant has enabled Photo Friends to send five contemporary
photographers out to document present-day industrial L.A. All
of the images they take will become part of the Library’s
permanent Collection and some will be featured in the upcoming
exhibit.
